This tute will walk you through how to set up a simple webpage using Front Page 2002. 1.) First open Front Page, you should have something that looks like this...
2.) Go to File, "Save As" and name your new page, I named mine practice.htm and placed it on my desktop.
You can name yours whatever you'd like and place it anywhere you'd like but put it in a place you can find
easily!
3.) Now that we have our page saved, lets work on making it pretty! Decide the type of font you want your
page to be written in. Look at your tool bar, use the drop down menu to chose the font type and size you
want....
4.) We need to set what alignment we want our page to have. Look at the screenshot above, look on
the same line on the toolbar as you set the text on. Do you see the 4 buttons that have what looks
like written sentences on them? (in the screenshot above they are just after the U and just before
the big A.) The first button sets your text and images to align to the left, the second one sets them to
align centered, the 3rd sets them to align to the right and the 4th justifies your text. Let's use the
second one and set ours to center.
5.) Now that the font type/size and your alignment is set let's set the colors we want our page and
text to be. We do this by going to the Toolbar and clicking on "Format" then on "Background"
this will bring up a box like this....
Look under "Colors" see where it says Background and you have a drop down menu? Use the drop down
menu to chose the color you want your background to be. Do the same thing for the Text, Hyperlink,
Visited hyperlink, and Active hyperlink.
You may also chose to use a background tile, if you have an image/tile you'd like to use you can set it by
selecting "background pictures" under Formatting. You will need to "browse" to where you have the
tile saved and select it! Your background and any images you use on your page will need to be uploaded
to your site and the URL of each set in your page so that they will show up. Once you've set your
background image right click on the page and chose "Page Properties" click on the "Background" tab and
change the image to the URL of where your background is located!
You can also click on the "General Tab" and give your page a title if you wish...
Once you have them set click Ok! Go to File and Click on "Save". The setup of your page is now saved
and you can start to work on the rest of your page!6.) Click on your blank page and type a header message! Whatever you'd like your page to be about is fine.
If you want the text for the header to be larger, then up the size of your font, you can also set it to be
in a bold type by clicking the "B" on your toolbar next to where you set the font size. You may also chose
to use an image as the header, if so skip to the next part.
Note... Hit the enter key to space down, if it spaces more than what you want hold the shift key and hit
enter!
7.) If you'd like to have an image at the top of your page or anywhere else within the page we can do
that too...here's how...
Set your mouse curser where you want the image to be placed. Go to the toolbar and find the icon that looks
like this.., click on it and a box will come up like this...
Search though your files and find the image you want to use in your page. Once you've found and have it
selected and see it showing in the "File name" box, click Insert. Your image should now be showing on your
page. You will need to upload your image to your site and change the properties of the image on the page
to reflect the URL of where the image is located. You do this by first clicking on the image on your page
to select it, then right click and a menu will appear, click on "Picture Properties", you should get a box like
this...
Click on the "General" tab, see where the Picture source is? It should have the directory name of
where the image you're using is located and the name of the image. Once you have the image
uploaded to your site replace this with the URL of the image and click OK!You may want to go to File and click the "Save" tab!
8.) The last thing I will teach you in this lesson is how to add a link. First type out what you want
the link to be, such as "HOME", now, highlight the home text by clicking and holding your left mouse
button and drag the cursor across the text, once all of it is selected let go of the mouse button.
With it highlighted go to your Toolbar and click on the icon that looks like this...A box will
open...
In the "Address" box place the URL you would like visitors to go to when they click on the text!
You know have a link. You may also want to make an image be a link, to do this insert the image you want to use, click on
the image to select it, then click the link icon on the toolbar and type in the URL you want the picture
to take visitors to.
9.) Continue to add images and text in the same way I've instructed you to. Once you have everything
on the page you want, click the Save button! You're now ready to upload your page to your site so
that visitors can enjoy your handy work!
10.) Note... the main page of your site, the htm, will need to be named index.htm or index.html but
all other pages can be named whatever you wish them to be, within reason of course! *L*I hope this tutorial has shown you how easy it can be to make your own webpage using Front Page.
Check back soon because I plan to have other tutorials on creating pages using Front Page.
Until next time,
God Bless!
