In Loving Memory of Mary Newton
"Lady Oz"
July 26, 2003

The tide recedes but leaves behind bright
seashells on the sand.

The sun goes down but gentle warmth still
lingers on the land.

The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet
refrains...

For every joy that passes, something beautiful
remains.

We are gathered here today to say our goodbyes, at least in this earthly existence,
and to somehow thank you for everything you did for us.

You spent your life trying to teach us to be good, honest, decent, loving human beings.
To love each other and those around us, to know the difference between good and bad.

Death is nothing at all -- I have only slipped away into the next room. Whatever we
were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, speak
to me in the easy way which you always used. Laugh as we always laughed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.

Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without
effort. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is
absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind because I am
out of your sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near
just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief
moment and all will be as it was before -- only better,
infinitely happier and forever.. Author Unknown

The above photo was taken of Mary in April 2003 at a restaurant called Charlie's
where she celebrated her birthday with her family.
Click on Mary's photo to visit her site.

Below are tributes to Mary from friends from all over the world that knew and loved her.

My goodness... my heart still hurts over the loss of dear Mary. I'm also amazed at
how attached people can become over the internet. I only knew Mary since
last September and only through Cafe PSP but it was like she was already an
old friend. We started talking right after I made a comment about the beautiful
dogs and then we talked about everything from mothers to Australian deer.
Only a true friend will listen to your deepest thoughts and give you strength
in your weakest moments. Mary Newton was a true friend.

It's so unbelievable and so unexpected.
Mary was such a sweetheart, and loved by all of the members from the Cafe.
I'm very happy that she got to see all the graphics that the members had made
from her latest tutorials, everyone loved them and there where so many of them.
It's so hard to accept that she is not in the Cafe anymore.....
I feel very bad for Mel, her children, grandchildren and the dogs, they are all going
to miss her terribly. Mary was a very special woman, and she will always
be in our hearts and never will be forgotten.

Hugs, Connie:-) C-ME

I had a hard time thinking of something appropriate for Mary
(it's hard to be creative when your eyes keep dripping water)
This is what I came up with....I think she would like it.

""The Newtonia"
by Mary Newton

This is Mary's own creation she made following one of
Chrissi's tutorials that is on our August menu! I know Mary would
have posted it as soon as the menu was unveiled if she would
have had the chance!

"The River"
sung by Garth Brooks

You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores...and

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
Has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
And say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide...yes

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all...yes

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

Yes, I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
'Til the river runs dry

Mary always encouraged me to keep on doing landscapes from scratch
so I thought that she would really like this one I did just for her.
I'm not particularly religious but I do truly believe that as long as we live on
in others memories that those we love, that have passed, are still very much
alive, just in a different way. I know from my own experience that our loved
ones still watch over us and they are waiting for us to come to
them when we're called.
Hugs,
Linda

Life's Rainbow

Beginnings are lacquer red

fired hard in the kiln

of hot hope;

Middles, copper yellow

in sunshine,

sometimes oxidize green

with tears; but

Endings are always indigo

before we step

on the other shore.

Throughout this tribute to Mary her hand has been guiding us.
It started when Sherilynn posted the beautiful poem that is on the
first page of this Memorial. Then without telling Ginny about the
poem we wanted to use, we asked her if she would make an image
in the "Dark Dreams" tutorial style as a header for Mary's Memorial.
Ginny had just finished the image you see at the top of these pages
when we showed her the first page with the poem on it! This was Mary's
hand guiding us to what her tribute should be.

We (Emily and Connie)
had talked that day and didn't think that either of us could do justice
putting together a memorial for our beloved friend Mary, the pain
was just too deep but once the "little" things started happening
we knew Mary would be right there with us, helping to find just
the right things needed.

There had been times through the years that we've known Mary
that things like this has happened between us. We had teased Mary
before about being "inside of our heads" ....Mary would just laugh
and say "someone needs to be inside the two of your heads" *L*
We find comfort that Mary is still "inside of our heads" guiding
us. It has been Mary's strength that has helped us get through this.

Connie and Emily were not the only two that felt Mary's
presents guiding them. This is what Ginny had to say....

"I was asked to make the graphic for Mary's page in the style of the
Dark Dreams tutorial. I went to Mary's site to have a look at what
*she liked* and saw a lot of blue and many images of the sea, shells,
starfish, etc. So I went to work with a seaside theme. As I was just
about finished Connie sent me the poem that was going to be added to
that very page. Well it was quite a moment!! The graphic had the
*ship with her white sails* as described in the poem. This is only
one of the many *coincidences* that have happened while we were
working on Mary's Memorial! We are all very sure that Mary has been
guiding us through the process!!"

I am so stunned and saddened by the loss of Mary but
we are so blessed to have such a wonderful angel in heaven to watch over us all.

My tribute to Mary is given through her tutorials. She will always live on in
her tutorials by bringing out our creativity and allowing us the opportunity to
increase our artistic talents.

This is her Cow Ballet tutorial that you can find on her tutorial pages.

Thank you Mary for your special talents that you've so unselfishly shared
with the of the world. You have truly helped to make it a better place.

It is time to say my good byes to Mary. So many of you have offered such
eloquent eulogies that I am finding it hard to find anything that has not
already been said. I rarely called her just Mary...it was either "the other
Mary" or the "upsidedown Mary"...a running joke between us. I offer my
sympathy and my prayers for all who knew and loved her. When
thinking of this friend so suddenly and prematurely taken from us I can
 only offer these words.

She is not gone...
She is not dead,
She is only just a step ahead.

Love to all,

Mary B.

I'm so shocked to hear about Mary dying on Saturday. She was such an
active and cheerful person that this is hard to believe.

She will be greatly missed and well remembered.

In sorrow,
Nancy
